At the beginning of May, our family took a weekend trip with two other families to Xi'an. We took a train that left at 10pm and arrived at 8am. We were all a little nervous about how a sleeping car would work out, but it went very well!
Xi'an is known for its rich history and specifically, the terracotta army that has been unearthed in the last fourty years. I won't go into many details but it was really neat! Also, we took a tour of the city wall that is still intact. Landry and Jared rode a bike on top of the wall while Mariella and I rode in golf cart around the perimeter. Landry joined Mariella and I when it got too hot for him and then, Jared had to pedal the tandem bike for the remaining time :)
We got the opportunity to take a short Chinese calligraphy class. The teacher wrote some Chinese characters. She asked the class (the other 2 families and us) what each character was. Mariella was able to identify them quickly so she brought her up to the front to "teach" the rest of us!
